The girl next door

Elijah let the beginnings of a smile play at the corners of his mouth. “I’m going to marry Milkah.” (01 Caravan)

Milkah מִלְכָּ֔ה in the Bible means “counsel.”

The first Milkah was the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother. See Genesis 11:29 and 22:20.

She was the grandmother of beautiful Rebekah who married Isaac, the promised and long-awaited son of Abraham.

The next Milkah was the daughter of Zelophehad. Numbers 26:33 and 27:11.

She and her sisters — Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, and Tirzah — won the right for daughters to inherit their father’s land.

Numbers 27:7 – “Zelophehad’s daughters are right.”

Which one do you think is Milkah?

  1. I’m gonna guess that Milkah is 3rd from the left in the red dress. She comes across strong and self-assured in the way you portray in your book. A self-confident woman would wear red. Am I close? 🙂

  2. Thanks you Nancy Ragatz

I drew the picture because of an experience I underwent in the rabbinate in Israel after the death of my father, I arrived with my two brothers and my mother to release the inheritance favor my mother. The rabbi did not allow me to enter the discussion because the inheritance belonged to boys only
